Spotlight tells the story of the journalism team that uncovered one of the biggest cases of child grooming and cover ups by the catholic church, and unfortunately it is based on a true story.
Given the subject matter, it’s a little hard to talk about because while it is a very interesting film, I wouldn’t exactly say I enjoyed it. It’s an important drama and plays out the team realising the sheer scale of the scandal which at the time is based in Boston. It’s a little slow to start with, but stick with it.
It’s utterly heart breaking, especially the credits at the end, but the film highlights that 13 years on, we shouldn’t forget that this happened.
Probably not a date night movie, but definitely worth a watch.
