Move Monday: Hairspray (2007)

Who doesn’t love a musical?

Hairspray is an all singing and dancing film set in the 1960s. At a glance the movie appears to be about Tracey, a plus-sized talented dancers who wants to be on her favourite tv programme – The Corny Collins Show. When you watch it, it’s actually about a lot more than that – primarily the segregation on the show.

The cast is amazing. Stars range from John Travolta to Queen Latifah to Zac Efron. They’re all fantastic and the chemistry between Travolta and Christopher Walken as Tracey’s parents is spot on.

It’s full of catchy songs and wonderful outfits. Without spoiling anything, I loved the ending. I thought the plan was hilarious – and that’s all I’m going to say on the matter.

Recommended as a fun family film to have everyone dancing around the living room.
