It’s the film that started the franchise, Madagascar introduces us to the characters we’ve come to know and love from New York’s Central Park Zoo. The adventure starts when Marty escapes for a night, but ends up getting more freedom than he was expecting. Along with his three friends, he’s sent off to the wild but things don’t exactly go to plan.
This movie is my favourite of the Madagascar films (followed closely by the Penguins of Madagascar). It’s hilarious, cute and full of catchy music. I hadn’t seen it in a long time as with all the sequels and spin offs, I felt a little bit overwhelmed by the whole thing, but the original still has that sparkle. It’s light-hearted, easy fun but with a few jokes thrown in for the parents.
Honestly, if you somehow missed this one, it’s worth checking out. I’d skip the second and third one though and just head for the Penguins film after though.
