Kelly and Cal is a movie about the unlikely bond that forms between a frustrated house wife and a wheelchair-bound 17 year old boy. It follows the pair as their relationship progresses from talking about music and what’s wrong with their lives to much more than that.
It’s a rom-com, but I didn’t find it particularly romantic or funny. It started out okay, and the characters were interesting, but then it became kind of creepy. I’m not sure which part of 30 year old woman seducing a 17 year old boy is supposed to make me laugh? If the genders were reversed there would be an outrage at this film being a “comedy”.
It’s disappointing and tried way too hard; if they had focused on the friendship and didn’t attempt to make it romantic then it might have been an okay film. As it is, it’s not worth the time.
