Right now you’re just hours old, and everyone’s celebrating your arrival. It’s a Friday, and the sun must have known you were coming since he’s been out all day. Your Mummy and Daddy have been waiting such a long time to meet you – especially since you made yourself so comfortable in mummy’s tummy.
While they’ve been very busy at the hospital, I’ve spent the day waiting to hear about you and imagining all the adventures you’re going to go on as you grow up. It really got me thinking about all the things you’re going to need to know, here’s just a few:
First of all, mum knows best! If she’s telling you not to do something, its to keep you safe. If she’s making you eat your vegetables, its so that you grow up big and strong. If she’s telling you to take a coat, its so that you stay nice and warm all day long. Everything she does is for your benefit, even if it just seems like she’s being bossy.
Secondly, the world is a wonderful place, but sometimes bad things happen. Trust me, if there was a way that I could stop them, I would – unfortunatley, I’m not that clever. Luckily for you though, I know that nothing stays bad forever, and in the meantime a big hug will always make you feel a little bit better.
You can do anything you put your mind to. Maybe you’ll grow up to be a teacher or a policewoman. Maybe an artist or a doctor. Things might not be easy, and you’ll habe to work hard, but it’ll be worth it. Whatever you choose to do, as long as you’re trying your best, that’s the most anyone can ask for.
The final thing you should know is the biggest and most important; you are loved. I love you and will do whatever I can to make you happy, but my love is nothing compared with that held by your Mummy and Daddy. They will love you unconditionally for your whole life – no matter how naughty you are or what you break. They’re doing their best to make sure you have everything you need in life and to bring you up to be the best you that you can be. They will always be there for you.
Welcome to the World.
