Series Sunday: Saved By The Bell

This weeks series sunday is a bit of a throwback to my childhood with the Nickeloden classic Saved by the Bell.

You may be thinking, “But Charlie, you can’t be that old?”, and you’d be right; the show actually ended the year before I was born. Fortunetly for me, Nick had run out of new programmes so started re-runs of old ones, and so my love for Bayside way born.

Last month, I found a channel one Sky that was playing season 1 from the beginning. So needlesstosay, I watched every episode. The old flame still burns.

The show centres around teenager Zac Morris and his group of friends as they find themselves in all sorts of comical situations. Some of the props and outfits give away its age, but to me its still as good. There’s some episodes that touch on more serious subjects like drugs and greif, but most of the time its lighthearted fun.

Saved by the Bell will always hold a special place in my heart even if some of the stories were a little strange and the acting wasn’t exactly award-worthy. It came along at the right time and occuiped many of my afternoons as a child.
