This time last year I was doing something amazing. It involved some great people, balloons and a heck of a lot of gummy bears. Intrigued? You should be.
June 1st 2013 was the first of the JK Collective’s events (don’t know what I’m on about? Click on me!). It was part of B-fest which is a youth art’s festival and also to promote Jeff Koons exhibition being shown in the gallery.
If you’re not familiar, Jeff Koons is an American artist best known for his giant shiny balloon dog sculptures (you’ll have to Google it due to copyright and stuff…). One part of our event was to teach young people how to make balloon animals, the other was to exhibit our own gummy bear art.
Yes, you did read that right. Gummy. Bear. Art.
Before the event, we spent time creating sculptures from bendy wood twigs called willow and tissue paper. Then we covered them in gummy bears with very strong and smelly glue. It’s not something I ever thought I’d be doing, but I was so glad I had the chance to.
There were loads of left over sweets that we handed out at the event (and also consumed large numbers of). It wasn’t our most popular event because we were inside while it was a gorgeous sunny day, but nevertheless it was enjoyable.
Some moments in life are crazy, just go with it; it might turn out to be the best moments of your life.
